Episode 8: Claudio Gulli at Palazzo Butera on the art of curating

Season 3 Sicily

At Palazzo Butera in Palermo, director Claudio Gulli reveals how curating can itself be a form of art.

Through the private collection of Francesca and Massimo Valsecchi, displayed as though in a lived-in home, visitors make connections across centuries.

The Valsecchi’s love for the artworks and objects they have collected, combined with bold curatorial choices and a majestic Palermo palazzo museum setting, is reshaping how we experiece ancient and contemporary art.

In this episode:

  • How Palermo’s Palazzo Butera bridges the city’s layered history with a global dialogue

  • The challenges and freedoms of curating outside the conventions of a traditional museum

  • Why juxtaposing the old and the new can spark fresh ways of thinking about art

  • Insights into the collector’s vision that transforms a private passion into a public dialogue
